The Future Just Happened
By Michael Lewis
In modern society, the Internet is now accepted as a basic, working component. It seems extremely difficult to believe that just a relatively short while ago, it was a fledgling technology which no one predicted would turn the whole world on it's head the way it has. The implications of this revolution have been widespread, crossing all boundaries.
In this book, Michael Lewis takes a look at the phenomenon, at the most basic level, as well as at the most complicated level; namely, at the individual level, as well as at the societal and global level. He details his encounters with individuals who epitomise the revolution of the Internet, and then steps back to view the ramifications on the larger society. Also, he covers the shift of a centrally based knowledge system to a more 'democratic' society, as far as knowledge goes, amongst other topics.
The sociological impact of the internet, when analysed as such, is bound to open up some new perspectives, so this is definitely a book I'd highly recommend. Considering how the internet is so important to us now, you could maybe consider this a sort of an 'Introduction to the Internet'.
